Software & Apps

Below we have listed some of software and apps we intend to use in the SMILE room and why, all of these can be substituted depending on the projects size and as technology changes, but for smaller projects there is some great inexpensive or even free apps and software. These may also change as new technology is released so we will keep this page updated.

Crazy Talk 7

CrazyTalk is the world’s most popular facial animation tool that uses voice and text to vividly animate facial images. We wanted to use CrazyTalk in the same way you would a puppet, pupils can record themselves or type words and the character will repeat what they have said. The pupil can make their own character from any photo or choose from an existing library.

Another use for the package is when working with pupils who are more withdrawn or are on the Autistic Spectrum, as it has been proven a lot of them will interact better with a computer generated character. Using Crazy talk characters can also help keep pupils attention, with this in mind we hope to generate introductions to projects/scenarios using CrazyTalk characters as presenters.

Animated & Interactive Story Books

We are nearly at an end of flicking through books, having to have multiple copies of the same book in schools and getting to the end of the book just to find the last page missing (it always seems to happen to me).  With electronic book readers and tablet, thousands of books can be at our fingertips whenever we want them and now we have animated/interactive books to help mutative reluctant readers, to keep attention and to inspire pupils in a new way.

We have a great collection of interactive & animated books already available in iTunes and now also in the Windows 8 app store, with a lot of these for free.

3D Software

With 3D software we can now do things that just a few years ago were unimaginable, thanks to the great leaps in technology in the past couple of decades we can now generate amazing special effects in movies that are undistinguishable from reality. There are already a number of companies that are producing 3D content for education and we expect to see this expand rapidly in the next few years. We have been very careful to make sure our concept can grow with future changes and developments and we look forward to see how companies will embrace and nurture this growing technology.

Minecraft

Minecraft

The worldwide phenomena called MINECRAFT is even hitting the classroom, for anyone who does not know what Minecraft is, it’s a video game which can be a fighting zombies style game or a survival game or a creative program where you use blocks to build exciting worlds that are only limited by your imagination. Teachers have already started using it in the classroom as a teaching aid and we hope to use it in the SMILE room as well.

iClone Real Time 3D Animation

iClone Real Time 3D Animation

IClone is an animation suit that can be used by both teachers as well as pupils to produce amazing 3D worlds, real time character animations and any 3D objects there imagination allows.

We intend to use iClone to produce scenarios for the SMILE room as well as teaching pupils basic animation principles. For more information please visit the content page.
